Essex Care Consortium: Fordham Ltd.
Residential - The Conifers

An Environment for Personal GrowthEssex Care Consortium Ltd Fordham is a specialist-based resource, known as The Conifers. It is newly registered to provide living accommodation and care for six adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. The home is in Fordham with beautiful country views and peaceful surroundings. It is a large bungalow with a 3/4 acre surrounding garden, a heated swimming pool with patio, and BBQ area.

The bungalow is family size with six client bedrooms, four with en-suite facilities. There is a very spacious kitchen and dining room, plus a sitting room with french doors opening onto the garden. The Conifers is staffed according to individual needs and is overseen by a Registered Manager who is responsible for the staff team, clients welfare in general, and the essential standards of quality and safety. Staff have their own quarters for sleeping-in.

At the Conifers...

Clients can spend weekdays attending College or various day services or work experience, and there are many weekend leisure and cultural activities. We provide transport to 'Access', our specialist Learning Resource, on our Colchester site.

At The Conifers we aim to maintain high standards of specialised care, creating a beautiful home in wonderful surroundings that offers individual support and encouragement to all our clients. Clients are offered a key to the front door and their own room. Safes and individual lockable cabinets are provided for valuables and the safe storage of medicines in each room.

Activities and Lifestyle

The home is family orientated and focuses on activities that involve the families and friends of the clients such as BBQs and pool parties. The staff concentrate on each individual's personal choices and needs and these are put into a life skills activity plan. Every step is monitored so that small outcomes can become big and the goals that individuals achieve are fully recognised.

We believe that all aspects of an individual's life and the choices they make are brought together by creating a positive and fulfilling living enviroment. We do this by promoting individual choices regarding everyday life and offering as many experiences as possible. This is achieved by creating as healthy and stimulating an environment as possible, and we offer clients the opportunity to grow food in our allotment area and take part in the preparation of high quality meals.

Clients are encouraged to attend client meetings and to contribute in making house decisions, organising events and trips out. We aim to create a sense of belonging for each individual, the group and everyone at The Conifers.

Inclusive Communication

At The Conifers Inclusive Communication is paramount and our communication team work closely with our staff to enhance the needs of the clients.

We believe that communication is vital for the individual's progression, and offer an all inclusive communication enviroment; therefore, all staff make use of signing, symbols, objects of reference and photographic tools.

It is here at The Conifers that life skills and the promotion of independence is facilitated using techniques like 'back-step training' enabling individuals to approach tasks in structured achievable steps, working at each individual's pace. This creates a positive atmosphere for new learning and development to take place. Person centred care is at the heart of our work and our individual approach to clients creates a positive atmosphere for new learning and development to take place.

Family Oriented

We offer families and friends the opportunity to share our experiences at The Conifers, as we wish to involve the people who matter to the individuals we care for. We will encourage the clients to take responsibility in entertaining and sharing their home with the people they love and who are important to them.
